Kris Wilson Scores 2nd Career Koni Challenge Pole at Miller Motorsports Park

September 21, 2008 - Tooele, Utah-

C-Max / Unitech Racing arrived at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah fresh off of a pole winning performance at New Jersey Motorsports Thunderbolt Raceway. The cars, drivers and crew were ready to win at Miller and early sessions during the promoters test day on Thursday proved it. Kris was consistently the fastest car with Dave not far behind.

Both practice sessions Friday were spent making minor adjustments to the handling of both cars. Once again, Kris proved to be the class of the field. The decision was made to have Kris qualify the #25 and Dave to qualify the #26. The race strategy would be to have Kris exit the #25 at the first opportunity and David Russell jump in and do the best he could. Dave Riddle would start the #26 and come in at the first yellow flag with Kris taking over and driving for the checkered flag. The first yellow came out on lap 7. Since each lap was 4.48 miles long, there was plenty of time to bring in both cars simultaneously and do the driver switch. After the pit stop, Kris was in the #26, David Russell was in the #25 and both cars had full fuel and were ready to run for awhile.

Kris had worked his way into the lead again by lap 23. He ducked into the pits on lap 26 for fuel only, returning to the track in 3rd place. David Russell was brought in on lap 28 for fuel and rear tires, after leading the field on lap 27. He resumed racing in 15th place.

Kris took over the lead when the full course yellow flag came out on lap 35. With only 4 laps remaining to the end of the race, the green flag was thrown. Kris was bumped off the track by the second place Turner BMW. After returning to the track in 3rd place, Kris was hit by the Automatic BMW as he made the pass for 2nd. That hit took out the radiator on the #26 and the race was over for Kris with just 2 laps remaining in the race. David Russell soldiered on to a 12th place finish in the #25.

All in all it was an extremely frustrating finish to a great weekend. The C-Max / Unitech Racing team heads to the 6 hours of VIR, October 5th. Check out complete results and coverage on www.grand-am.com.
